Patient and Effective Tutor for all Grades

Hello!

My name is Emily and I have been tutoring and helping students prepare for college applications for nine years. In addition to tutoring other students, I also home schooled my younger sister in AP US History (I’m an accredited teacher), AP US Government and Politics, and Senior Level English. While my strengths are in English and History, I am very competent in math and science and have tutored in them for years. I was exempt from taking the Praxis I exam for Elementary Education bec…

Albert K. from Bethesda, MD Emily met with our daughter about ten times and really helped her on a number of fronts. She was skillful at showing our daughter how to approach a question or a problem, whether verbal or in math. She helped her see that she could go back and forth between information in the question and options in the multiple choice. She taught how to use the options to help her understand what the question wanted if the question itself seemed confusing. She worked with basic prefixes and suffixes to help our daughter broaden her vocabulary, building on similar words she already knew. She of course helped our daughter eliminate highly unlikely options and narrow it down to the point where if it was between two or three possibilities, she could make an educated guess - guesses which over the course of the exam have the probability of improving her score. On the writing sample, she was terrific at helping our daughter brainstorm and build spider diagrams, which our daughter had already learned in school, instead of a formal outline. This proved really effective. But perhaps most importantly, Emily's manner and encouragement gave our daughter confidence and comfort with the testing experience. I had the sense that when our daughter took the test, she carried Emily's calm and reassuring presence with her in her head.

Matthew W. from Norfolk, VA This is an individual I like to use for my tutorial help all the time. I hope I get the opportunity to do just that again.

Toni B. from Washington, DC I'm so lucky to have found Emily as a tutor. She is so kind and patient with me. I am actually a freshman in college and I was looking for a tutor that would be able to help me pass my college level Algebra 1 course and she is doing exactly that. We have covered almost two entire chapters and are preparing for my next test and final. I've never been an expert at math and Emily is understanding of that and she has been teaching me how to approach even the most difficult problems that I may encounter. I highly recommend Emily M. to everyone looking for a great tutoring experience.
