The Language Maven (and beyond)
I have been a private educator for many years, and I truly love working one-on-one with students. With an MA in linguistics, and a background of working in education for over 25 years, I find that there is nothing more satisfying than seeing the light bulb appear above the student’s head when he or she finally gets it.
My strengths as a tutor include the fact that I am excellent at communicating with my students, I know how to work at each student’s level, and still can get each student to …
Testimonials
Tamar M. from Northridge, CA Carol is a pro and meets one's expectations for covering the material in the time allotted. She's easy to get a hold of and tries to make herself as available as possible.
Michelle M. from Northridge, CA My son was struggling with High School Spanish 2. He was barely maintaining a C average when I decided to hire a tutor for him. I found WyzAnt and chose Carol as his tutor. It was the best decision I could have made. In a few short months, she has helped my son raise his grade to a strong A average, while boosting his comprehension and self confidence. I would strongly recommend Carol as a tutor. I have found her to be personable, timely, and very knowledgeable in the subject matter.
Deborah B. from Los Angeles, CA Amazing!!!!!
Annabel and Caitie R. from New York, NY Carol has been our girl's tutor for the past two months. During this time she has been a pleasure to have in our home and has been just lovely with our children. She is prompt and professional and always brings interesting work for our girls, which she researches on the net. She has a lovely, friendly personality and makes tutoring fun for our children. She is very smart and well read and has a good way of imparting her knowledge to children. She is trustworthy, sensible and thoughtful, the type of person that you want to have around your kids. We are very grateful for her help over the last two months and sad to say goodbye, we are all very fond of her. Thank you for employing such a high caliber of tutor.
Anthony D. from Reseda, CA Great sessions, friendly and easy to work with, very skilled in writing techniques. Our session was for GRE prep (verbal and analyzing) and I definitely feel more comfortable going into the test.
James C. from North Hollywood, CA Carol has been and continues to be a fantastic tutor for one of my lead managerial employees. She is punctual, flexible, and always professional. She is tutoring our manager in order to help him develop better verbal and written English. Carol is particularly skillful in identifying very specific problems in tense, word usage, and pronunciation. Consequently her tutoring is very tailor made and effective. She is honest, open, and joy to have among our team. I highly recommend her for developing English skills in adults.
Melissa P. from Simi Valley, CA Carol Anne has been thrice, now, to tutor my 9th grade son in English. I have been very thankful and impressed with the effort that Carol Anne has put in. She has worked with him to complete three class assignments and did a lot of her own homework for each, beforehand, to make sure her comments and efforts were relevant to the works he was assigned. She patiently goes over all of his work, including grammar, punctuation, diction, style, vocabulary and (the dreaded) spelling in a friendly, calm manner. At first, my son was very resistant to the idea that I had hired a tutor to go over his work (and he barely spoke during that first session), but after this third visit, I see his tough persona beginning to thaw and I heard him engaging in a decent discussion with Carol Anne about this most recent essay. I really wasn't sure what I would ask an English tutor to work on with him since he doesn't get daily problems, like one would in a math class, but I know that he needs more work in this subject and so far, I have been skeptical about the rigor (or lack thereof) of the curriculum and attention he is getting in school. Carol Anne is very flexible and willing to work on whatever happens to be at hand at the moment.
