Passionate and Capable Math and Science Tutor

I am a senior physics major at Northeastern Illinois University preparing to enter a PhD physics program after graduation. I have helped one high school physics student achieve success in her class as well as solid conceptual understanding of the material. I have also assisted countless classmates and peers with comprehending concepts presented in lecture, solving homework problems, and reviewing for exams. Jenny P. from Chicago, IL In the summary of our tutor session Steven wrote that I should work on logarithms and completing the square. This is comical since I am and have been proficient in completing the square for weeks. During our session Steven was able to clarify one question for me within the first five minutes. It was all downhill from there. He was not able to derive an answer for any of my questions for the following 50 minutes. I left without learning anything substantial. He was not familiar with the process of completing the square, could not identify the vertex formula, was surprised that at college level algebra we would be working on optimization... the list could go on. His mention that I needed to work on logarithms is quite comical because I was very aware of that when he arrived and it was the one of the first things I mentioned to him. Matter of fact I even had to remind him of several rules of logarithms while he was trying to figure out some of the problems. The entire session lasted one hour, we worked on 6 college level algebra problems of which he was able to help me with one. I excused the fact that he was 15 minutes late because I was eager to get some answers--little did I know that I would be left with the same questions. It is with great regret in such a critical time that I cannot give this tutor a glowing review.
