My name is Melody Cook.
I began learning to play the piano when I was five. My mother had a piano and some books. I loved the piano and I mostly taught myself. As an adult, I finally received professional musical instruction when I studied music at Valencia college and the University of Central Florida. I earned an Associates degree in piano performance and a Bachelors degree in music performance with a concentration in music composition. graduating with honors in 2019.
My teaching experience began early. I was home schooled and taught some of my younger siblings reading, mathematics, and beginning piano. I have tutored children ages 5- 13 in reading and mathematics. I worked as a daycare teacher off and on for a few years in my twenties, teaching children ages 2- 10. In my thirties, I began teaching piano class at a middle-school while attending college. I have been teaching private piano lessons to all ages since 2014.
On my profile I stated that I can teach students with special needs. I want to clarify that I do not have training in this area, but I have worked with students who have ADHD, autism and other special needs. It is helpful for me to meet with the parents or other caregivers before the first lesson to discuss anything I may need to know, in order to give the student a positive learning experience. My students with special needs are great students! They enjoy and benefit from playing the piano, and I enjoy working with them!
