When we first met, he asked a number of questions regarding my background, goals, and amount of time available. After that he put together a course designed for my needs. During our sessions, he patiently waits while I struggle for the right word and correct pronunciation, but quickly answers when I need assistance. Also, I really appreciate his professionalism. Every session he arrives fully prepared with a clear goal in mind; we never waste time wondering what to do next. At the same time he's very flexible, letting my interests guide the lesson. If I had access to someone like Julien when I was taking French in high school, I probably wouldn't need him now. A really exceptional teacher who makes learning a difficult language relatively painless.
