Hello, my name is Josh! I have been playing clarinet for 10 years now, and am currently 2 semesters away from obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Performance at the University of North Texas, studying under the tutelage of Dr. Kimberly Cole Luevano. Due to fantastic teachers throughout my years of playing, I have been able to enjoy an extremely successful career, with notable achievements such as placing in semifinals of the University of North Texas’s Concerto Competition, and placing 3rd prize in the International Clarinet Association’s Young Artist Competition in the spring of 2020. I have many exciting performance opportunities in my future, as well!

In my highly individualized lessons, students can expect to go over basic fundamental playing habits that will help build their tone, technique and facility, and musical expression from week to week. Fundamentals are always the key in order to successfully play clarinet, so it is vital that good habits and practices are formed early in one’s career to get a better sense of how one should play the clarinet. Everything from proper air support to embouchure setup to finger position to articulation we go over; if a student feels like they are struggling in any particular place, I offer multiple strategies and resources to help them overcome their struggles!

I also feel a welcoming and supportive learning environment is key to help foster great playing ability; I am always focused on the positives and building both myself and my students up, as often critiquing can leave all parties feeling down and unmotivated. If you’d like to ask me more questions, or are interested in taking a lesson, please don’t hesitate to reach out, as it would be a pleasure to teach you!
