I am a Phd student at UT Austin, currently teaching/TA-ing various math courses here. I have taught math for 6 years now, both individually as well as in small groups and in a classroom. My office is always packed with students coming in for help because they say I explain it better than the professor. I even have other TAs’ students asking for my help.
I usually figure out how a student thinks fairly quickly, and after that, it is easy to adapt to their mode so that it’s almost as if…

Catherine H. from New York, NY Sona was sweet and helpful. She gave me a new way to think about my work, which has already increased my confidence with the material.
Chris H. from Austin, TX I'm sure not every story will be so dramatic, but this was our experience. My 11th grade daughter is a great student, and has only seen a couple of B's in her entire high school career. BC Calculus started off challenging, however, and she quickly fell behind. By early december, she had a failed 3 tests, and had an overall failing grade. Not only was she having trouble with the material, but her confidence was suffering considerably. We contacted Sona on Wyzant on December 8, 3 days before my daughter's last regular exam, and only 9 days before the semester final exam. Sona responded very quickly, and was luckily free to visit for a first session the same day. My daughter has always wanted to figure things out herself, but immediately responded to Sona, who was patient and very clear explaining topics that had been previously baffling. She returned 2 days later for a second session, and the next day my daughter passed her last regular exam. Sona returned for 2 more sessions over the next 4 days. My daughter's confidence began to return, and she looked forward to each session. 2 days later, my daughter took her final exam and got a 100. Frankly, even she was surprised. In 4 sessions (average 100 minutes) in just 9 days, my daughter went from failing BC Calculus to getting a 100 on her final exam. Sona was able to help her exceed all reasonable expectations by helping her regain her confidence, and through helping her understand the material in a way she had previously been unable to on her own or even with help from her teacher. With the new semester starting up, we are now scheduling a weekly session with Sona to stay ahead of the material, and hopefully have a much more calm rest of the year. I cannot recommend Sona more enthusiastically.
Steve G. from Austin, TX Sona really took the time to understand how my son processes information. She figured him out and was able to convey the material to him in a way that was easy for him to understand. She also developed "homework" assignments for him to do in between tutoring sessions that proved to be very helpful. Overall, the experience my son had with Sona was extremely productive. Her grade was an A++ in our book.
