Naturally, there is a 'getting to know you' period especially with a young child but she took it all in stride. She let him run a few discussions and persuaded him to do his part as needed. She got a feel for his current reading skill and talked with me about her ideas to move forward. We appreciate her coming a bit outside of her preferred distance range to work with our child and believe she will be able to improve his reading level by the time school starts in the fall. Now after a handful of sessions, Luann and our son have got a system. She's gotten to know him and has learned to manage his exuberance without getting into a battle of wills with him. They re making some visible gains in his reading confidence and fluency.
