The TASD is committed to providing high
quality early childhood programs to all children
who reside in the Tyrone School District. In
2006 the district created an Early Childhood
Center which is located in the elementary
building.
All the programs in the partnership provide a curriculum based on the Pennsylvania Early Learning
Standards for high-quality early childhood programs. The preschool classrooms provide children with handson challenging activities helping
preschoolers acquire early readiness skills. Particular emphasis is placed on providing literature and language
experiences crucial to future reading success. The PATHS curriculum is also used to help boost the young childs
self-esteem and to help him or her learn social skills. Additionally the programs provide information to parents
concerning parenting as well as educational issues.

The program provides
enriching activities in all areas of child
development. The curriculum is based
on the Pennsylvania Early Learning
Standards. Literacy activities take up a
large portion of the day. The children
listen to many stories read aloud by the
teachers and participate in shared and
guided reading groups. The children
are introduced to Kid Writing which
includes writing in journals writing
messages making pretend menus
creating lists labeling artwork and
more. Other parts of the curriculum
include ABC activities math science
discovery art music center time gym
and library
