Montessori education named for the Italian physician Maria Montessori stresses the importance of the development of a healthy self-concept. Education she believed is a preparation for life not merely a search for intellectual skills…. the child has one intuitive aim- self-development. Within the child there is a need to develop inner resources and the ability to cope with a strange complex world. The child who accomplishes this moves into harmony with the world and becomes a full person. The Montessori Method pursues the fact that the mind of a child is absorbent and thus the environment should be prepared carefully to train the senses to stimulate curiosity and to satisfy the need to know. Montessori’s philosophy and psychological principals upon which she devised a carefully graded series of self-teaching devices are today accepted as a positive alternative to traditional education.

Through the prepared environment of the Montessori classroom we strive to help the child develop autonomy as a learner. We assist the child in developing comfortable and productive peer relations learning the basic skills and concepts necessary for intellectual development in language math the sciences and the arts and maintaining a healthy body. Our main objective is to make the child aware of his environment and to help him learn to organize it to help the child to establish effective learning strategies and to kindle an excitement for learning.
