We are open from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Discovery Oaks Academy family-owned and has been part of the Sterling neighborhood since 1970.
Discovery Oaks Academy offers a rewarding learning experience for the whole child, where academic and social needs are met through hands-on learning. We incorporate age-appropriate math, science, and language concepts into our literature-based curriculum creating a world of learning where each child is engaged and challenged from their preschool experience through their elementary years.
Preschool provides a safe, nurturing environment where children enjoy learning as they grow socially, emotionally and physically. We use classic children’s stories to excite and transport our young learners into the wonderful world of literature. Each month brings new stories that support all areas of development and foster each child’s imagination and creativity.
Pre-Kindergarten provides a fun and friendly school experience that builds upon each child’s academic and social skills preparing them for that learning leap into Kindergarten. We use favorite children’s stories to create an exciting world where the children learn, grow, and mature through play with peers, structured routines, and exciting hands-on activities.

Our philosophy is to ensure that each child is loved and cared for in a healthy and safe environment. Learning experiences and social activities are incorporated into a well-planned program, which is designed to foster a childs emotional, physical, social, creative, and intellectual development in a warm and friendly environment.
Discovery Oaks Academy provides an academic environment that encourages children to meet and exceed Loudoun Countys Standards of Learning (SOL).
The Academy began as Blake Preschool and Childcare Center over 35 years ago. Ilene and Warren Blake, and Stanley and Martha Mills started the original school on Church Road in Sterling in 1970. It was the first kindergarten (public or private) in Loudoun County.
On September 18, 1992, Paula and David Munger purchased the school and renamed it Munger Academy. In April 2007, Robert Singer and Michele and Chuck Inderrieden purchased the school from the Mungers and it is now named Discovery Oaks Academy. Major renovations and upgrades were completed in January 2008
The Academy boasts over 35 years of developing curriculumsthat educate, nurture, and develop children so they have the skills to achieve.

Discovery Oaks Academy has been important to many families in the Northern Virginia area. Many close relationships have grown among staff and families over the years. A number of the Academy employees attended the school as children and sent their own children to Munger Academy, and now as Discovery Oaks Academy.
Conveniently located on over four acres of land, the campus provides spacious, well-equipped and age-appropriate playground areas, which are very important elements of the overall program. The school is part of an established Sterling neighborhood, and is bordered on one side by the wooded Claude Moore Park.
