Journey Discovery Center’s educational philosophy focuses on the academic, social, emotional and developmental needs of every child, enabling them to meet their full potential.

We understand that all children learn differently, and should be provided experiences that allow them to progress at their own individual pace. Journey will be intentional to provide unique experiences which come from our understanding of child development and how children acquire knowledge.

We also understand the important role parents and families play in their childrens education and encourage their involvement to enhance their childs early childhood education.

Learning at Journey Discovery Center

Throughout their years at Journey, your child will accomplish significant academic growth on an individual basis.

To achieve academic and developmental growth, Journeys teachers will provide developmentally appropriate curriculum which offers varied opportunities for exploration and hands-on-learning.

As a discovery school, we will focus on learning through observation, exploration, and experience. Journeys teachers reference the Early Learning and Development Benchmarks while planning curriculum, and interacting with the children.

These benchmarks are a guide to childrens learning and development that are categorized into 5 domains:

  • Physical Well Being, Health, and Motor Development
  • Social and Emotional Development
  • Approaches Toward Learning
  • Cognitive and General Learning
  • Language, Communication, and Literacy

Journey’s teachers implement student-initiated curriculum by observing what their students are interested in learning about, and how their students would like to learn. Our teachers will use a variety of assessment tools to guide the children through their learning.
