Silver Spring Day Schools (SSDS) curriculum is designed with the whole child in mind. Based on themes that interest children, activities are designed to motivate all types of learners. Every theme-based unit includes learning for small and gross motor, social, emotional, and cognitive development. Cognitive skills activities include math, science, reading, and social studies. All children enjoy learning through creative play, art, and small group work.

At SSDS, teachers are given the latitude to design their own curriculum with the help of a scope and sequence designed especially for our school. Even though children may be learning through different themes, the scope and sequence followed by all the teachers ensures that each child is learning the same set of skills as they move through our school. The scope and sequence is just one way that teachers prepare our children for success as they move on to their next school experience.

Our educational program is also designed to assess children as they develop from year to year. Records are kept that allow teachers to see a childs growth each year and to share this information with parents. Parent-teacher conferences are offered to families one to two times a year, to keep families informed about their childs progress. This approach to each students record keeps the lines of communication open between parents and teachers and teachers and their colleagues. Age appropriate assessment tools help the SSDS teaching staff identify and meet the needs of each child.
