The Franklin Schools believe that children should have opportunities to explore their creativity beyond the traditional materials and curriculum. Morning, afternoon and extended care programs provide the children with experiences that help further develop awareness of the world around them. Whether it is a field trip to a local nature reserve or learning about another culture and language, Franklin offers a variety of unique educational experiences to provide both creative and stimulating intellectual, artistic and developmental experiences for the toddler, pre-school and kindergarten-aged child.
The environment for two year olds is professionally designed to help them feel secure and comfortable in their home-away-from-home. Their well-equipped, self-contained room with a credentialed Montessori teacher, instructional assistant and twelve two year olds, guarantees opportunities for plenty of the one-on-one attention you desire for your child. Cozy surroundings and a caring staff involve your child in a day full of creative and stimulating activities. A well-planned agenda incorporates all areas of growth: social, emotional, physical and intellectual. A child is eligible to enter the toddler class on his second birthday.
Toddlerhood is a time
to venture forth from the nurturing family unit
to explore the world in a safe environment
to compare and contrast big and little, wet and dry,
rough and smooth, heavy and light
to refine movement of the body and the hands
to learn to be a friend, to take turns,
to be gentle, caring, and respectful
to use words meaningfully
to learn to do things “by myself” confidently.
Early Childhood Program

Afternoon Program and Franklin Ambassadors

The Franklin Schools provide extended care for children enrolled in the school between the hours of 3:00-6:00 p.m. Each class is led by a PCCT (Preschool Child Care Teacher) and an instructional assistant. In a relaxing atmosphere, after a busy school day, children in Franklin’s afternoon program enjoy a balance of free choice and organized activities in a warm, nurturing and highly creative setting. Developmentally appropriate activities are the foundation of the curriculum and daily schedule planning. Afternoon activities are play-based and experiential. Physical, social, emotional and cognitive growth are stimulated through hands-on, real life experiences. Literacy activities are integrated daily into all aspects of the curriculum through children’s literature, creative storytelling, songs, poetry and fingerplays. Creative movement and art instruction are offered weekly to enrich the program. After a nutritious afternoon snack, the children enjoy time outside on one of Franklin’s four playgrounds.

Franklin Ambassadors (kindergartners and children who are five by December 31st) enjoy drama class as part of their afternoon curriculum in conjunction with Franklin’s Performing Arts Department. Ambassadors are the upperclassmen of our school community. Franklin’s Ambassadors Program provides opportunities for upperclassmen to be role models for freshmen (our toddlers and preschoolers) and encourages students to be leaders in areas such as good citizenship, grace and courtesy, peer mediation and academic pursuits. Welcoming guests, making introductions and assuming responsibility for oneself, prepare Franklin Ambassadors to maintain leadership skills for a lifetime!
