Together we will be partners in providing a child-oriented environment that embraces the concept of the whole child. Our activities stimulate childrens physical and intellectual development and foster social and emotional growth. Our program seeks to encourage children to think, reason, question and experiment. Through hands-on activities and challenges, the children become willing participants in their own learning cognitively, emotionally, socially, physically and culturally.

When you entrust the care and early education of your child to us, you can expect that the principles guiding that care are rooted in manifesting the following goals cited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC):

Relationships: That interactions between children and adults provide opportunities for children to develop an understanding of self and others and are characterized by warmth, personal respect, individuality, positive support and responsiveness. Our teachers facilitate interactions among children to provide opportunities for the development of self-esteem, social competence and intellectual growth.

Partnership: That teachers and families work closely in partnership to ensure high-quality care and education for children, and parents feel supported and welcomed as observers and contributors to the program. We believe in empowering parents by involving them in ongoing relationships as full partners with teachers in supporting their childs development. Young children are integrally connected to their families. Programs cannot adequately meet the needs of children unless they also recognize the importance of the childs family and establish positive relationships with families based on mutual trust and respect. All communication between programs and families should be two-way, but also based on the concept that parents are and should be the principal influence in their childrens lives.

At Joyful Noise Child Development Centers we plan activities that encourage cooperation, experimentation, and communication among children. We do not force children to operate as a large group for long periods of time. Instead we encourage children to let their curiosity and initiative drive them to make choices from a variety of classroom activities. Our teachers act as guides for these explorations, and investigators along side the children. Our Emergent Curriculum and extensive Projects speak to the childrens individual interests and allow learning within a meaningful context. The children in our centers learn to negotiate, solve problems, and construct their own code of ethics; thereby learning true compassion and developing intrinsically motivated empathy.

Parents who choose such developmentally appropriate environments for their children give them a much greater gift than any rote math or phonics lesson can. Combine this with stability, interaction, communication, and love, within the context of firm boundaries, and their children will have the foundations for successful future learning.

Over the course of several years, weve developed a paradigm that we believe best supports an infrastructure where children can grow and learn. Our educational plan encourages children to be actively involved in the learning process, to experience a variety of activities appropriate to their age and rate of development and to pursue their own interests in the context of life in the community and the world. Through play that is guided by adults, children learn language, concepts about the physical world, social skills, problem solving, motor coordination and self confidence.
Developmentally Appropriate Practices

We base our curriculum, planning and activities on these three things:

  • Knowledge of the stages that all children go through and recognition of where each child is developmentally within these stages.
  • Identifying individual childrens strengths, interests and needs. This requires copious anecdotal records by the teachers.
  • Knowledge of the social and cultural context of the children. This requires healthy, on-going relationships with the parents and family of the child. We want parents to know they are welcome to spend time with us as often as they like. Let us get to know you! We want you to look around your childs classroom, know what your child is doing, ask questions, talk with the teachers, exchange information, follow through with ideas from the center at home, stay involved. Share your culture, traditions and areas of expertise with the children and teachers!
