Mission Statement
Imani Education Circle Charter School is dedicated to challenging the Genius in all of our children in a safe caring African-Centered Environment.
Our Mission
IEC will provide students in grades K-8 an academically rigorous mathematics science and technology-intensive program in a safe and caring environment. IEC will address the needs of students their families and their communities by building on the strengths of each students’ cultural heritage and life experiences. The goal is to enable students to become successful lifelong learners and valuable members of the global community.
Our History
Imani received its Charter from the Philadelphia School District in 1999. When we opened our doors in September 1999 we had 300 students and approximately 20 staff. It fulfilled the dream of Dr. Francine Fulton who had been an educator in the district and a higher education instructor in the Philadelphia area.
Studying African cultures and frequently visiting various countries in Africa helped her become enlightened in African Philosophy. She now uses the knowledge gleaned from her varied exposure to empower her student population staff and parents.
She also believes Our recognition for making AYP three consecutive years may very well be attributed to the safe uninterrupted learning environment the combination of high levels of accountability for staff and students; and the infusion of the childrens historical evidence of their peoples contribution to the development of America."

IEC integrates the Principles of the Nguza Saba (on which Kwanzaa is based) the Kemetic ethical system of MA’AT (balance order righteousness justice reciprocity harmony truth and peace) and the study of science math and technology. To achieve this goal IEC strives to move all students through a process called “Heshima to Hotep” (Respect to Peace). These principles guide students as they journey on to become the bright lights we need in our immediate and our extended community.
