The program is governed by the Childcare Licensing Division of the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services.
The Armed Services YMCA has been operating before/afterschool programs since 1991.
The program emphasis is on keeping children safe and providing them with enrichment activities during the times they are not in school.
The program operates on 30 elementary school campuses serving 3 school districts (Killeen Copperas Cove and Florence).
Program enrollment exceeds 1400 students with a daily attendance of about 1200.
The program provides care during summer Christmas break Spring break and school in-service days;
Special Needs program hosted at one elementary school site.
ASYMCA provides financial assistance to 250+ families that qualify.
All ASYMCA staff receive First Aid /CPR and safety and security procedures training.
Selected staff receives training on how to work with children with special needs.
The ASYMCA Site Directors are Certified Child Care Directors.
The ASYMCA Site Directors receive 15 hours of mandatory training per year plus an additional 25 hours of management and supervision training.
Background checks are done on employees every year.
State ratio of staff to children is 1 to 25; YMCA is 1 to 15.

The ASYMCAs afterschool program is designed to help children develop their creative abilities learning skills and social relationships. The staff is dedicated to the enhancement of the quality of life and safety of all participants in the program. Homework time arts and crafts games sports and story time are just a part of the basic program.
