Preschool in Monmouth Junction, NJ 08852
Our mission is to nurture and preserve each child’s natural curiosity for learning. We
encourage children to develop academic, physical, social and life skills in an environment
of mutual respect. The school is committed to serving a community of children and families from diverse backgrounds.
We recognize parents as the child’s first teachers and utilize conferences, meetings, observations, and
parent study groups to disseminate information about Montessori philosophy and methodology.
We strive to:
Be fully committed to the curriculum of Maria Montessori. Offer a warm and caring environment that is culturally diverse. Foster great relationships with our families. Provide teachers with an opportunity to realize their fullest potential as educators.Want more information?
The philosophy of education developed by Maria Montessori fits together like puzzle pieces. Based on her observations and her medical knowledge as a physician, Dr. Maria successfully built a methodology which has the integrity and timelessness to remain intact and applicable to the needs of todays children. She suggested the following characteristics about children and how they learn:
Children are to be respected as different from adults, and as individuals who are different from one another. Children develop themselves through meaningful and purposeful activity. Children flourish in an atmosphere of acceptance, trust, and respect. Children need freedom in limits in order to initiate an active role in their learning. Childrens creativity should be fostered in all areas of the curriculum. Young children posses unusual sensitivity and mental powers for absorbing and learning from the other people around them and the materials to which they are exposed. Children pass through developmental stages called sensitive periods, during which they can more easily acquire a particular skill. Children are better able to learn abstract concepts when the materials which they work are ordered and concrete. Children learn through self motivation. Children develop self discipline through working in an orderly, predictable environment, and by following ground rules of the classroom that are established and reinforced by the teacher.
