Edina Morningside Nursery School

We believe that children learn best through play, hands on and active. They are naturally inquisitive and curious. During play they can learn about their environment, try out new styles of play, make friends and learn about their peers, make choices and see the consequences. Teachers act as friendly guides to the world of school and friendships. We encourage children to try new things, support them in their learning, ask important questions and provide them with an enriched environment where they can play and learn. Play is fun and fun is good!
For young children social learning is of primary importance. They are learning to separate from parents, to feel comfortable in a new environment, to get along with a group of peers. At Edina Morningside they will be able to progress through stages of play, from solo play to parallel play, interaction, and cooperative play. Our open areas and enriched environment encourage children’s social development. We work with children on skills including self confidence, initiating play, making friends, sharing, taking turns, sitting in a group, focusing on activities, making choices, resolving conflicts, planning ahead and understanding our world.
Children are growing and learning physically, cognitively, emotionally and socially. Our open ended curriculum, planned weekly with these unique children in mind, allows each child to grow in each area of development at their own rate. We will include Language and Literacy Activities; Science and Nature Observation; Math Skills and Concepts; Physical Challenges for Development, Growth, Fitness, Flexibility and Endurance; and Fine Motor Skills as preparation for school and just for Fun!
