Tatanka Academys vision is to graduate children (and families) who are healthy, compassionate, well-adjusted, prepared, educated and contributors to thriving neighborhoods. The mission is to promote the academic and social-emotional success of young children by providing full-spectrum educational and support services.

How Does Tatanka Academy Fulfill Its Mission?

• Tatanka teachers are committed to supporting academic and social/emotional success in elementary students.
• Tatanka leadership is committed to providing full-service education and family support.
• Tatanka operates a longer school year 44 weeks (including 5 week summer session) with convenient school hours (10 am 4:45pm) in a neighborhood-based location.
• Tatankas classrooms have fewer children and more adult attention than traditional public schools. In the 2010-2011 school year, the average class size is 15 students and the student to teacher ratio is 10:1.
• Tatanka students form learning communities by wearing uniforms and engaging in multi-grade activities.
• Tatanka parents join in a variety of activities that support their students including monthly family nights and parent education.
