Since this is usually the child’s first experience in a school setting, the focus in this classroom is on socialization and introducing a structured environment. During the morning there is a short circle time that incorporates calendar, weather, shapes, colors, and an introduction to numbers. In addition, we enjoy finger plays and literature that correlate with our monthly themes. Projects offer time to be creative and practice following directions. We focus on fine motor skills by introducing scissors and tracing. Through music we explore awareness of self and gross motor skills. There are also many opportunities to enjoy free and structured play to ensure socialization and imaginative growth.
