Our program is designed for two-to-six year olds. Each classroom environment is thoughtfully and carefully prepared so that children can share the space in a safe and productive way. The three-to-five year old room is always attended by four adults – two certified Montessori teachers, and two assistants. The twos have a lead teacher with an assistant, and no more than nine students.
Discipline at the school is supportive, not punitive. Besides safety concerns, our rules say only that we are to respect each other and respect the materials. Misbehavior is treated as a mistake, and children – supported by appropriate words and actions modeled by adults – are encouraged to try again.
The teachers role in the classroom is to facilitate a childs development process. Observation notes are compiled and every childs development is assessed and discussed with parents at two conferences each year.
A bi-lingual environment and instruction are provided in both classrooms. We are excited to continue our collaboration with La Casita Center, a non-profit organization that provides educational and family services to Hispanic/Latino families. Both classrooms are staffed by an English-speaking teacher and a Spanish-speaking teacher.

Dr. Maria Montessori believed that no human being is educated by another person. Rather, we ourselves are inspired to learn what we need to know. For this reason, the goal for the educational process is to support each childs natural desire to learn.
Children between the ages of two and six pick up knowledge and understanding spontaneously, effortlessly, joyfully. The Montessori teacher serves as an enthusiastic guide for every childs journey.
Kenwood Montessori Schools goal is to help each child become a responsible, secure, and balanced human being – one who can communicate with other people, and who knows the joys of being able to do things for oneself.
