The Adath Jeshurun Preschool is philosophically committed to the development of each child enrolled in its program. A licensed, non-profit preschool, Adath Jeshurun focuses on every area of the childs development. The emphasis is geared toward individual, social, emotional, physical, cognitive, linguistic and intellectual growth. From beginning problem-solving, reasoning and critical thinking to the nurturing of creativity, sharing and individuality, the staff at Adath Jeshurun Preschool allows each child to develop at his or her own pace. Activities are designed to engage, challenge, and stimulate our children and produce smiles and laughter!
Care is taken to encourage self-expression and self-confidence as children learn about friendship and group interaction. All of this is accomplished through Adath Jeshurun Preschools belief that children learn best with hands-on-experience and that all children deserve a learning environment that is both challenging and guiding. An environment in which they can explore, discover and exercise their own capacities to think, plan, and experiment. The children play and learn in a secure and supportive atmosphere in which emphasis is placed on the process of learning rather than on a pre-determined final product.
AJ children learn critical thinking, problem-solving, and reasoning through dramatic arts, creative art projects, block building and water play. They learn Jewish culture, religion, and spiritual principles by celebrating the beliefs, holidays, and heritage of the Jewish people. They develop sharing and planning skills by choosing activities at classroom centers. They learn to express feelings and thoughts through song, movement, drawing, painting, and other media. They build confidence and respect for self and others by observing how their teachers treat them and by treating each other with the same respect and dignity.
All children are considered regardless of race, creed or national origin. The school is the 1989 recipient of the Solomon Schechter Award for excellence in preschool education. Director, Melissa Loyd, and her staff are proud of the schools reputation and strive to continue its tradition of excellence. They incorporate playtime and learning time into a philosophy and atmosphere which plays an integral role in the lives of the children.
