The Rutgers Early Learning Research Academy (ELRA) is a state-of-the-art service and research center at Rutgers UniversityCamden that provides early childhood education to students and families in the city.
Research indicates that early childhood education is linked to higher academic achievement, lower rates of grade retention and delinquency, lower rates of special education classification and improved quality of life. ELRA provide the education and holistic health and human services needed to successfully eliminate the educational achievement gap in the United States.

In addition to educating children and families in the city, ELRA provide on-site healthcare, professional development for teachers, and opportunities for students and academia to conduct and publish research on early childhood education and development. Therefore, ELRAs strategic model includes six major program components: Early Care and Education Program to serve children in Camden City, from birth to age five,with a focus on dual-language instruction; Research Unit to provide ongoing program evaluation and to conduct and publish studies on key areas of childhood development; Academic Component to develop undergraduate/graduate level programs to prepare students for careers in childhood development and education; Professional Development & Training Center to work with teachers, parents and families to build and sustain capacity for the field; Health Center to provide comprehensive care for families, specializing in pediatric and prenatal care; Parent Development & Resource Center to maximize parental engagement, strengthen parenting skills, and nurture leadership skills as educational partners. ELRAs birth through preschool program, combined with its strong partnership with LEAP Academy University Charter School (K-12) and Rutgers undergraduate catalog, creates one of the nations only Birth-to-16 education models. This model creates the opportunity for Rutgers to have a direct educational impact on Camden children from infancy through college (more than two decades), while creating a ground-breaking research in early childhood education and development.
