The Step By Step Infant Developmental Center is a not-for-profit agency created to provide comprehensive Early Intervention therapeutic services (such as physical therapy occupational therapy speech therapy nutrition special education itinerant services social work counseling etc.) to those children under the age of three (3) who have been identified as at risk. We are a comprehensive multiple-program agency whose main focus is to provide home-based early intervention / infant stimulation (diagnostic educational developmental and therapeutic services) to pre-school children with handicapping conditions who are aged birth to three (3).
All services are provided at no-cost to the parents of eligible children who have been approved by the Citys Early Intervention Program (EIP). Our Early Intervention Program is funded and regulated by the New York State Department of Health and in New York City by the New York City Department of Mental Health and Mental Hygiene. Step By Step is proud to have always received superb and outstanding fiscal and operational reviews by these governmental agencies.
One of the fundamental focuses of the program is for the parent and professional staff (educational and therapeutic) to build a mutual relationship of trust and a mutual understanding. To us parents are the primary partners with our professional staff. This partnership can help improve our schools educational performance and provide resources and expertise not otherwise available.
Successful schools know that they must enlist the support of parents. In order to reach the goals we have established for the children we service it is clear that we must fully involve parents in our efforts. Under the school leadership team structure development of education plans is a shared responsibility of school administrators teachers therapists and parents. True educational leaders know that they must rely on teamwork to leverage their management capacity. To achieve student performance goals they must work jointly with the parents – as partners – to coordinate services and programs to maximize resources and to implement their educational plans. Parents help ensure that learning continues beyond traditional school hours and provide enrichment to their children.
