All students in EW’s afterschool programs participate in:
*Academic/Literacy Enrichment Activities that help students build competencies in literacy, math, science, and other academic subjects. Daily homework assistance is offered followed by reading and math tutoring, and instructional games. *Visual and Performing Arts Activities that inspire creativity and exploration in reading, writing, storytelling and songwriting. The visual and performing arts curriculum uses a variety of media such as paper, paint, clay, dance and technology to create books, sculpture, music and video, movement, and murals. *Social Development Weekly activities that develop self-esteem, conflict resolution and anti-bullying skills through participation in recreation, community service activities, chess, poetry and other clubs, computer classes, and service learning projects centered on National Days of Service. Students not only gain a better sense of themselves and interact with the world around them, they develop relationships with caring adults, which is critical in positive youth development. *Health & Fitness Physical activities and nutrition education that promote healthier and more active lifestyles. Programs include daily exercise and education on food portions, nutrition and improving snack and meal selections. *Field Trips Quarterly field trips to locations which illustrate, explore and expand upon what students have learned in the classroom. Trips to exciting places, such as Grounds for Sculpture in Hamilton, NJ; Snipes Farm in Morrisville, PA; Wall Street in New York City; and the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, PA.Family involvement in children’s education is an important component of the EducationWorks afterschool program. Parents are encouraged to visit, observe, and participate with their children in activities, accompany their children on program-sponsored trips, serve side-by-side in community service projects, assist in the classroom or participate in family reading activities. Several times a year, parents have the opportunity to participate in community service activities alongside their children, which sends a strong, positive message about everyones responsibility in building and caring for the community.
