Center in Staten Island, NY 10301
The Wagner College Early Childhood Education program consists of a delicate balance of structured and self directed age appropriate activities. Enrichment experiences are provided for youngsters at their individual levels.
Our objective is to assist the young child in acquiring basic competencies and skills while also assuring that the quality of the experience will satisfy, intellectually stimulate and be personally meaningful for each child.
Our child-centered curriculum includes readiness activities. Creative music and art, the use of manipulative materials and movement activities are integral parts of the program. Also included in the schedule are mathematics, language arts, science and computer activities.
The Center is administered by a full time director who oversees the program and staff. Activities are coordinated with many campus departments, as well as with the Education Department (both undergraduate and graduate divisions) of Wagner College.
Each group of children is under the guidance of a New York State certified cooperating teacher. The graduate assistant teachers are candidates for the Masters Degree in Education.
Additional help is provided by students from the College in areas of Nursing, Theater, Music, Psychology, Sociology and Education as part of their field practicum experiences.
The staff is committed to respecting the individuality of each child and is sensitive to their special needs.
The Early Childhood Center is an integral part of the teacher training program of the College, and is fully licensed by the Department of Health of the City of New York.
The Wagner College Early Childhood Center, located with the College’s beautiful Grymes Hill setting, is housed in Campus Hall, removed from the main traffic of the college campus. It is open to the entire Staten Island community.
