Serving the New Dorp community the Police Athletic League after-school program in PS 41R offers its participants a variety of activities including arts and crafts dance chorus drama twirling technology literacy math and basketball just to name a few. In partnership with the Staten Island Advance the PAL offers Education in News a program aimed at providing students with knowledge of how a newspaper is constructed. Students also benefit from learning about current events. The PAL at PS 41R also partners with the NYC Public Library where select students participate in weekly and/or monthly trips to the New Dorp Branch for literacy activities. Through PAL special initiatives students participate in art contests and community service projects (canned food drive coat drive etc). These activities encourage our students to work together and practice teamwork and communication. The PAL program at PS 41 is the only PAL after-school program that is led by a part-time Center Director. The remainder of the staff includes NYC DOE paraprofessionals student-teachers college students and a NYC police officer. This facility is authorized to administer over-the-counter topical ointments only
