Port Matilda Elementary is a rural school that has approximately 170 students in grades kindergarten to sixth in the Bald Eagle Area School District. Our school can be found at 209 Locust Street in the community of Port Matilda. On a map you would find us in the southwestern tip of Centre County in the middle of Pennsylvania. We are just 7 miles from Penn State University home of the Nittany Lions.

Bald Eagle Area Elementary schools provide comprehensive curricular programs which includes the areas of Reading Writing Mathematics Social Studies Science and Health. Itinerant teachers specialize in the areas of Art Music Physical Education and Library. These classes meet for approximately 50 minutes in a six-day cycle. Our fourth through sixth grade students may also begin instrumental lessons.

Each classroom at Port Matilda is equipped with three or more computers. Our building computer lab was updated in 2007 with new computers and flat screen monitors that all have Internet access. These computers support our Accelerated Reading Program that now includes most of the books in our Library.

Port Matilda also provides additional services to support our students. Reading Recovery Title 1 Reading and Gifted Educational Program are offered to the students that qualify. This district is committed to Reading Recovery a program that provides a specially trained teacher to work individually with first grade students in the area of reading.

The parents staff and students are proud of the many outstanding educational activities occurring at our school. You can become part of the activities by attending our PTO meetings on the second Wednesday of each month. Each grade level has chosen a month to “Showcase Their Learning”. They will share some of the skills they are working on in their classroom with everyone who attends! PTO also sponsors many fun events for our students including field trips book bingo and Spring Festival to mention a few.

Our teachers and staff care about the students and work hard to meet their needs while helping them achieve their educational goals. I am fortunate and proud to be associated with this great group of educators and community leaders.
