Center in New York, NY 10035
In 1973 Odyssey House began providing an innovative program to treat adults with a pattern of despair and drug use that can come from depression mental disorders low self-esteem poor education or a lack of skills.
This program called the MABON allows drug-addicted parents and their children to stay together while helping break the cycle of drug abuse and strengthening the family unit. Previously these innocent victims of drug abuse had only a string of foster care homes as their sole option for shelter and care.
Today more than 200 parents and their children live in Odyssey House Family Centers of Excellence. Mothers and fathers do not need to choose between caring for their children and seeking the treatment they need. Pregnant women and parents of children 5 years of age and younger reside together in parent/child units for 12 to 24 months.
