Shepherd’s Flock is our weekday program for school age children. We provide care before school starting at 6 AM after school until 6 PM and all day during the summer. We are open for all no school days (including snow days) with the exception of major holidays. We also offer a morning kindergarten program for children attending public kindergarten in the afternoon. Shepherd’s Flock primarily serves children attending Donegal Springs Elementary. Please check with the director if your child attends another Donegal school or a private school.
A primary goal of Shepherd’s Flock is building and supporting relationships among and between children and staff. Age appropriate materials and activities are planned and provided to encourage the children to use skills and knowledge acquired at school while also pursuing individual interests. A wide variety of games art and craft materials and science and sports equipment are available and an effort is made to address emerging interests with supportive materials.
Supporting and encouraging spiritual growth and Biblical knowledge is a critical element of Shepherd’s Flock. Children participate in Bible studies music worship and prayer and discussion on a regular basis. They are also encouraged to serve the community and church in a variety of ways throughout the year.
We love summer at Shepherd’s Flock. We are able to more in-depth projects and have time for many more activities. Interest clubs give children the opportunity to explore new areas or learn more about current ones. We swim twice a week at the Mount Joy Lions pool and have weekly field trips or special guests. Typical trips have included the Harrisburg Senators Lake Tobias and Eagle Fall water slide. Special guests have included local story tellers Whitaker on Wheels (science programs) and a world champion juggler! Watch this site for the summer 2007 schedule of activities.
Shepherd’s Flock staff is well-trained and experienced. More than half have college degrees in education or a related field. All teachers and assistants are required to obtain additional training annually and must remain current in first aid CPR fire safety and water safety. Shepherd’s Flock is licensed by the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare and participates in Keystone Stars a voluntary quality initiative.
