I have had a passion for working with kids since I was a child myself. When I was about 11 years old, I was asked to assist my figure skating coach with the ice rinks tiny tot classes, and did so well with them that they allowed me to take over the class entirely. From there, I gained 2 private students of my own, and ever since, Ive known that I have a gift and a passion.
From my figure skating beginnings, I moved on to theatre, nurturing a life long passion for the performing arts. The youth theatre company I joined provided the only theatre arts education for all ages in my hometown of Odessa, Texas. From 7th to 12th grade, every single spring break and every single summer, I could be found for weeks on end, planning my classes meticulously and giving my heart to my students, working overtime to ensure that they not only enjoyed their time at camp, but came away with confidence and skill. I found an insane amount of joy watching my students slowly gain so many foundational skills from participating in theatre arts. I saw kids come into camp, terrified and isolated, who by the final showcase were singing with their chests on a stage in front of a live audience. That experience truly shaped me.
I chose to pursue my own career in the performing arts, and since graduating college amidst Covid, am slowly getting on track. Ive worked several restaurant/food industry jobs since, and while I enjoy letting my personality shine through connecting with customers, I dont feel the same sense of purpose as I did when I was working with kids.
I believe in leading by example, in connecting with the child and communicating clearly, firmly, and most importantly, respectfully. I am a huge advocate for play, knowing that research backs up the importance of active imaginative playtime in the mental and emotional development of the mind. I will create a space where your child feels safe to be their full self, and help shape them into compassionate, authentic, hard working member of society.
