Hello!
I have been babysitting since I was 13, and more seriously since the age of 15! I mainly worked with one family for 5+ years and still see them today. My role included tasks such as meals with the kids, and when we were home any household tasks that the parents would ask me to do/tidy up any mess that we would make while being there (dishes, meal prep, helping clean rooms, putting away toys/clothes), any homework that the kids had, play outside and go on walks depending on weather, and then have indoor play time. We would do things such as coloring, playing with their toys, playing games on their gaming console, and watching movies. During the summer, the day-to-day activities looked very similar, but I would also drive the kids to their friends house, sports practices/games, or bring them places such as mini golf or outdoor adventure centers.
My personal approach to childcare and child education is rooted in both professionalism and compassion. I understand the importance of open communication, reliability, and flexibility in meeting the unique needs of each child. I take great pride in building strong, trusting relationships with both parents and children alike. I have worked with children of all ages, whether that be babysitting, lifeguarding, teaching private swim lessons, or in an actual classroom setting. My resume does not highlight the extent of my work with children, but I have had a passion for working with kids and helping them with whatever they may need to be the best version of themselves. In addition, I have experience working with children in many different situations as well; children in foster care, children whose parents are in prison, children who have disabilities, and children with mental illnesses such as anxiety, ADHD, trauma, etc.
One experience I would like to highlight in this is my experience working at Square One in Springfield, MA. I feel as though that experience with those children really sparked my passion in child education and child psychology. I worked with children who were coming from backgrounds such as single parent households, foster care systems, or living with family due to their parent(s) being in prison. Being able to not only teach those kids valuable life lessons and skills that they can translate into the real world, but also be a resource and role model for them felt so fulfilling, and really highlighted the importance of this in a child’s life.
