Hello! My name is Naya Smith and I am currently a graduate student with a teaching certificate in Middle and High School education. Although I have not participated in traditional childcare before, I have experience working with students ages 4-17 in various classroom settings. ( I also was a camp counselor at Ramapo Country Day Camp). Currently, while I attend graduate school, I am a substitute paraprofessional for a school located in Bellevue Hospital.
I love working with younger kids because I appreciate their genuine curiosity and innocent outlook on life. As for older children, because I am not that far from my preteen/ teenage years, I can understand many of the struggles they face. So, to be a voice of reason and a source of comfort gives me the most joy.
At this point I am sure that whoever is reading this is still a little hesitant because of my lack of childcare experience. However, let me assure you, just like Liam Neeson, I have a very particular set of skills. Skills that I have acquired over a long period of time. Skills that make me an asset for people like you!
One of my skills is that I am great with time management. I am never late for anything, especially work. I also have never handed in one late assignment in all my years of college.
Another skill or ability I have is that I make learning fun or at least tolerable depending on the topic at hand. I am a firm believer that engagement is necessary in order for comprehension to take place. Thus, if your children need help with school work or they just need someone to engage with, I am that person! Since there is a word limit on this, I will not mention more.
