Write a messageHello my name is Kyla Marie Pilgrim! I am currently a senior pursuing a bachelors degree with a major in Criminal Justice and minor in Human Services. I’ve been watching children since I was 9 years old. My parents both had full time jobs in another state and I was responsible for taking care of my two little brothers during the times they were not home. I know everything from burping, changing diapers, making bottles, to just helping with homework, providing meals, and creating a comfortable safe and loving environment for children. Growing up with my little brothers made me love kids as they are amazing honestly and I’m so happy to be their big sister. Genuinely I don’t love anyone nearly as much as I love them. They’re getting big on me now though and it’s kinda awkward, I love it because I get to watch them grow up but I’m sad at the same time because they’re going to grow bigger than me and I’m watching them transform from little babies to big foot teenagers. Other than my little brothers I’ve worked at a summer camp for years as well as a daycare. I’ve mostly worked with kids between the age of 3-10 and have also been responsible for my three little cousins on occasions since they were born and are now 2, 5, and 9. So I do have experience watching more than one child at once. I’ve taken child psychology, and other human services courses that make me feel that I have a lot of knowledge under my belt. I have organizational, cooking, cleaning, problem-solving, language, clear communication, teamwork, and social skills. Working at island kids I’ve worked with many different types of children as not every kid is the same. I have experience working with kids who are either on the spectrum or have autism. I’ve always loved kids and I feel it’s my duty to make sure all kids feel heard and comfortable in their own skin as they are humans too regardless of their age. I love to create fun environments and can keep up with however much energy they may have. I am a very open, kind, patient understanding, empathetic, and optimistic person and I feel as though I show those traits on the daily especially during child care. I want to be a strong role model and build relationships filled with trust and love.
