Write a messageHi! My name is Jessica Wong and I’m Korean and Chinese American, born and rasied in Los Angeles, California. I moved to New York about a year ago to work as a 12th grade ELA teacher at Inwood Academy for Leadership and currently live in the Lower East Side. I went to school at UCLA, majoring in English and minoring in professional writing, creative writing, and community engagement and social change. I have many references that can attest to my experience in working with adolescents as well as being in the education sphere. I was awarded the Ruth Brill Award for my short story, First Time, and received highest honors for her novella, (Re)creation. I have worked at the nation’s largest poetry archive Beyond Baroque, the writing center at Los Angeles City College, College Board as an AP Literature grader, the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles, the viral documentary series 60 Second Docs, and was a senior news reporter for UCLA’s newspaper, The Daily Bruin. I also have an extensive amount of hobbies — I used to be a concert pianist, I love cooking (and eating), I DJ/mix music, have a kitten named Brooklyn, and love writing (obviously haha). I grew up with two younger brothers, so I used to create lots of fun activities for them to do like scavenger hunts, making newspapers, and arts and crafts! I’m available during summer break (end of June to beginning of August).
