Hi! My name is Hazel and I would be so grateful for the opportunity to work with you and your family! Being certified in DBT ( dialectical behavioral therapy) I have learned many skills which are apt for a variety of situations- from possible tantrums, to just creating a fun sensory game. I find that this modality of therapy can come in handy in everyday life, and has proven to me to be especially effective with kids.
Having previously worked as a camp counselor at a horse stable with PreK-7 grade students, I can proudly say that my approach will always be one that models that of a child’s mind, and with that comes fearless curiosity. I find that as human beings get older, we are conditioned in a way to stop asking the question “why” as much, however, this is something I intend on practicing with your family! For example, if a child is crying/upset, instead of immediately jumping to making the child happy again, I may work to explore why the child feels that way, validate the emotions, and of course work towards getting back on track.
As previously mentioned, I used to work at a horse stable in Brooklyn, so I LOVE animals, and that would be something I would love to incorporate into caring for your family! Some other things I would incorporate into our time together would be cleanup friendly science experiments, read alouds, and art projects.
