Hi there! My name is Mar. Originally from Evanston IL, I have spent the last 6 years living in NYC, and just recently returned to Chicago. I am a practicing artist and writer, working with handmade paper and binding to create sketchbooks, journals and more. My writing has been published across the U.S. and Australia, while my books have been commissioned and sold for a multitude of writing retreats and art events in the states.

I have been babysitting and nannying for over ten years, working with children of all ages and a variety of special needs, including downs syndrome, autism spectrum, Tourettes and mental illnesses.

I have experience as a live-in au pair in the Western suburbs of Paris, where I worked with three children under the age of ten. Duties included cleaning and home maintenance, cooking and meal prep, homework and bedtime help, as well as language learning.

In New York, I worked for a non-profit organization which sent teaching artists to Bronx public schools. I worked with classes of up to 25 students, Kindergarten-3rd grade, teaching paper-making, bookbinding and creative writing. My mission was to provide young children with an advanced emotional vocabulary by way of kinesthetic arts education.

Working with children has been the highlight of my days, teaching and learning through them. I try and integrate language and arts into all interactions (English, Spanish and French — with a bit of Italian picked up in college!), as well as patient understanding and encouragement of emotional communication.

I received my BA in Screen Studies from The New School in NY, with a focused minor in Screenwriting.
