Write a messageHi :) I’ve been working in childcare and education for the last 12 years and it’s something that means a lot to me. I spent the first 8 years as an after-school childcare provider and both live-in & live-out nanny (doing everything from basketball clubs to fairy house-building … and all of the cooking projects and movie-making in-between.) The most recent 4 years I spent as a substitute teacher (K-12, all subjects, incl. Special Education), which was a great practice in learning to be there for the kids without the luxury of time … but I’m looking forward to getting back to caring for and growing with a particular family over time. A mother of two boys for whom I babysat once described me as a “kid ally” and I think of that as a huge compliment. I put a lot of intention into helping the kids feel respected, understood, and seen as unique people. If I can help you become the best version of yourself (which just involves celebrating what you already are), it’s an awesome thing to be able to provide. I love the aspect of childcare that sees both myself and the kids learning from each other, too. I really love creating a shared sense of the world and a shared sense of humor with the kids … like we’ve got an entire universe we can inhabit together, and populate with cool new ideas and possibilities. I’ve spent most of my 12 years in childcare working with K-5th graders and I feel like I have a really compatible worldview and shared imaginative-ness with kids of that age. My nanny experience has mostly been with siblings, too, which lends itself to the development of a pretty cool & pretty special shared sense of humor and vocabulary. I feel like the dynamic is well-attuned to the sort of world-building and long-form creative imagining that I’ve excelled at in my role as a childcare provider. Sharing ways of relating and seeing the world (and joking around) make the days together a joy. Outside of work, I’m a recording artist … which involves a kind of open-mindedness and creative problem-solving that dovetails nicely with the imagination and care that I love to explore with kids. I enjoy being outside and moving through the city in ways that keep curiosity foregrounded and play a possibility. I think of myself as patient and compassionate (and silly) and care about being a good friend to … all humans :)
