Hi families! My name is Vani. I’m a 28 year old social work grad student living in Park Slope, Brooklyn. I graduated from college in 2017 and spent the next two and a half years living in Guinea, West Africa as a Public Health Educator with the Peace Corps. I moved to New York after returning to the US and most recently I was working as a case worker at a foster care agency in Brooklyn. I left my position in July to study for my masters in social work full-time and am currently babysitting part-time.

I have a lot of experience working with children, most significantly as a case worker for children in foster care. I regularly provided child care as a part of my job and would often pick children up from school to bring them to appointments, activities, and visits with their family. Additionally, I currently co-lead a Girl Scouts troop in Park Slope that is made up of 30 girls, ages 5 to 15, where I lead activities designed to engage the girls and empower them to become leaders in their community. I also support my sister in the care of my 14 month old niece. While I lived in Guinea, I created and led programming in the local elementary school and many of my projects were focused on promoting health of school aged children. In another project, I created and co-lead a group for mothers with children under the age of five.

Throughout my life, I have navigated the needs of many children and families. I am enthusiastic and creative and will bring fun, age appropriate games and projects to work on with your children. I am warm and engaged while maintaining clear boundaries. I am fully vaccinated, as are my two roommates. I also have excellent references that I can provide upon request!
