I love working with children because I grew up in a big tight-knit family. Our biggest family value is to always care for one another, and be of help any way we can. I take after my grandma whos very big on hospitality. Shed always make food for everyone, even the neighbors. As well as open her home to family regardless if there was no space at the time. Im the oldest cousin so baby sitting was usually my responsibility growing up. Making sure they do their homework after school. Preparing or heating up food for them to eat when they got home. Cleaning up all sorts of mess the kids would make. Informing their parents of anything concerning as well.
I currently help take care of my 7 year old niece and 11 year old nephew from time to time. When their father went to bootcamp for some months I was there preparing breakfast, dinner, or snacks. Attending school events in their fathers place. Spent time with them doing whatever they like whether its video games or painting because its very important. They also love to talk up a storm and be listened to. Kids need company, its crucial for their social development to have around an adult that makes them feel safe to be themselves. While also making sure they are safe. I also like to encourage them to take up the arts (not on anything else but a paper or canvas your walls/floors/furnishings are safe with me lol) because it allows them to express themselves in a fun relaxing way. I even make small coloring books for kids.
One of my favorite moments babysitting was during a welcome home party for my brother in law and his kids. My niece wanted to paint and so naturally all the other children wanted to as well. I brought out all the supplies I had and let them paint whatever they wanted. All the children were so happy and proud of themselves afterwards. They got to leave with their mini masterpieces and a new memory.
