Write a messageHi! I’m Jordan, and I’m currently a college student (fashion design major in Florence, Italy—I leave New York at the end of September!) Taking care of kids has always come naturally to me, which I see as a natural outcome of staying in touch with my experiences throughout grade school. My goal is to make sure the children I work with feel heard, understood, and loved, while simultaneously exercising their growing senses of discipline and higher reasoning.
A lot of my experience has been as an assistant teacher/tutor (including at The Art Farm in the UES!), but I’m also accustomed to daycare and babysitting. I love and value reading with children (and I do the voices— my mother is a theatre actress) and anything else that is fun and educational in equal measure. I understand that kids’ experiences run the same wide gamut that adults’ do, and I hope to be a sensitive ally to those going through troubles like family death or divorce, which I know firsthand. I also have some familiarity with neurodivergent behaviors, and am accustomed to a range of cultural mores after growing up in an immigrant town. In short, I want to meet kids “where they’re at,” striking such a balance so that rules get followed with as much freedom as possible left for idiosyncrasies.
English was my best subject in school; I may be of use even for teens preparing for their Collegeboard exams. I can speak Mandarin at a conversational level as well as a tiny bit of Japanese, and in my free time I expand my classical cello repertoire and attend ballet lessons, as I have done since childhood.
